Before you sign with a medical billing company in Florida, know what to ask. This guide scores eight companies on one rubric and covers the Florida rules every biller should know, from SMMC filing limits to PIP deadlines, plus 10 questions to ask before you commit and how to compare pricing.
Florida billing has gotten harder, not easier. Premier found that about 15% of claims submitted to private payers are initially denied, and that fighting a denial cost providers an average of $57.23 per claim in 2023 ( Premier). In Experian Health's 2025 State of Claims survey, 41% of providers said more than one in ten of their claims are denied, up from 30% in 2022 ( Experian Health).
Florida adds its own layer. Medicaid moved to new SMMC plan contracts and nine new regions on February 1, 2025. Auto-injury (PIP) claims carry a 14-day treatment rule and a 35-day billing window. Workers' comp billing rules were amended again in September 2026. A billing partner that misses any of these quietly costs you money. Below, for each company, we cover services, Florida presence, specialties, technology, compliance, pricing, Google rating (with link), score, and the type of practice it suits best.
Why Medical Billing in Florida Is Different
Any company you shortlist should be able to talk through every point below without looking it up.
1. Medicaid runs through SMMC plans, and the map changed in 2025
Most Florida Medicaid members are in Statewide Medicaid Managed Care (SMMC). New plan contracts took effect February 1, 2025, and the state cut its regions from 11 to 9, now lettered A through I ( AHCA). The health plans on AHCA's provider contact list are Aetna Better Health, Children's Medical Services Plan, Community Care Plan, Florida Community Care, Humana, Molina, Simply, Sunshine Health and UnitedHealthcare, with DentaQuest and Liberty for dental ( AHCA plan contacts).
Under SMMC, you generally have 6 months from the date of service to file with a plan, 90 days after a non-Medicare primary payer decides, and 3 years when Medicare is primary ( AHCA claims highlight). Plans, in turn, must pay 85% of clean claims within 7 days and 98% within 20.
Recent changes your biller should already know: the Children's Medical Services Plan is moving from Sunshine Health to Molina, SMMC open enrollment began October 1, 2026, and behavioral health and targeted case management limits were reinstated October 14, 2026 ( AHCA alerts).
2. Medicaid fee-for-service and the 2027 federal changes
For fee-for-service Medicaid, a clean claim must reach the state within 12 months of the date of service ( Florida Medicaid reimbursement handbook). Florida did not expand Medicaid, so the H.R. 1 work requirements and six-month renewals, which target expansion adults, should not hit Florida directly. The cut to retroactive coverage, to 2 months for non-expansion enrollees from January 1, 2027, does apply ( eligibility gaps at the front desk.
3. Florida's prompt-pay law works in your favor, if someone tracks it
Under Florida Statutes 627.6131 (insurers) and 641.3155 (HMOs), a payer must pay, deny or contest an electronic claim within 20 days, and must pay or deny within 90 days. Unpaid at day 120, the claim becomes an uncontestable obligation. Late payments earn 12% simple interest a year. You, in turn, must file within 6 months of service ( 627.6131, 641.3155). Florida Blue, the state's largest insurer with about 6 million members, applies a 180-day timely filing limit ( Florida Blue provider manual).
4. PIP auto-injury claims have their own clock
Florida PIP pays up to $10,000 in medical benefits, but only if care starts within 14 days of the accident, and only $2,500 unless a qualifying provider documents an emergency medical condition. Most services pay at 80% of 200% of the Medicare Part B fee schedule. A bill can't include charges more than 35 days old (75 days if you sent a notice of treatment within 21 days of the first visit) ( Fla. Stat. 627.736).
5. Workers' comp: different forms, different rates, new rules
Florida pays physicians 175% of Medicare and surgeons 210% for workers' comp care, and carriers must pay, disallow or deny a bill within 45 days ( Fla. Stat. 440.13, 440.20). Treating providers file the DWC-25 status report, and bill disputes must be filed within 60 days of a disallowance ( Florida DFS). The billing rules in Chapter 69L-7 were amended effective September 2, 2026 ( flrules.org).
6. Medicare Advantage is everywhere
Nationally, Medicare Advantage covers 55% of eligible beneficiaries, and in Florida about a third of MA enrollees are in special needs plans ( KFF). Each plan brings its own prior authorization rules and risk-adjustment coding expectations.

HMS USA LLC
HMS USA LLC, also known as Healthcare Management Services USA LLC, is a medical billing and revenue cycle company with offices in Floral Park, New York and Decatur, Texas. It serves Florida remotely through a dedicated Florida program. CEO Nauman Jamil holds CPB, CPC and CCE coding and billing credentials, plus CPA and CFP financial credentials, according to the company.
What sets HMS apart is how much sits with one team. Billing, coding, credentialing, prior authorization, a virtual front desk (scheduling, confirmation calls, eligibility checks, patient payment collection) and MIPS/PCMH reporting are all handled in-house. HMS works inside your existing EHR, so nothing needs to migrate. For Florida, it says it keeps Florida-specific claim-scrubbing rules and submits claims within one business day, and it publishes detailed guidance on the PIP 14-day rule.
On Google, HMS holds a 5.0 rating at both offices: 48 reviews in Floral Park and 10 in Decatur, with no review below five stars

Verdict: Why Choose?
We're biased, so judge us on the evidence: HMS scores third on our own rubric, and has the highest Google rating of any company here with more than one review.
Choose HMS if your biggest leaks are at the front end (eligibility, authorizations, credentialing gaps) as much as in claims follow-up. If you need a vendor with a SOC 2 report in hand today, CareCloud or PRG fit better.
CareCloud
CareCloud, Inc. (Nasdaq: CCLD), formerly MTBC, is the only publicly traded company on this list. Its press releases are datelined Somerset, New Jersey, and it lists a Florida office at 500 West Cypress Creek Road in Fort Lauderdale; its Florida Page 9 of 23 Google listing shows a Miami address. CEO Stephen Snyder joined in 2005, and founder Mahmud Haq is executive chairman.
CareCloud reported 2025 revenue of $120.5 million and its first full year of positive GAAP earnings since its 2014 IPO. In August 2026 it reaffirmed 2026 guidance of $128–132 million. It bought Medsphere's business assets in 2025 and Empower Healthcare & Compliance Partners in May 2026.
The pull here is technology. Next to outsourced RCM, CareCloud sells its own EHR and practice management software, plus cirrusAI tools for ambient notes and AI-drafted appeal letters, and a stratusAI desk agent for inbound calls. Its RCM team can also work in your current EHR
| Headquarters / Florida presence | Somerset, NJ; Florida office in Fort Lauderdale; large teams in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. |

|
Verdict: Why Choose?
CareCloud tops our scorecard on compliance and transparency. It's the safest pick for a growing Florida group that wants one vendor for software and billing. If you're happy with your EHR and want a hands-on team, a dedicated billing firm may serve you better.
Physicians Revenue Group (PRG)
Physicians Revenue Group, Inc. has billed for physicians since 1997 and is headquartered in Downers Grove, Illinois. It is registered in Florida as a foreign corporation (document F23000005222, active, annual reports filed through 2026), and lists a senior territory manager and a regional account manager covering Florida. Mansoor Ahmed is President and CEO, and the company publishes a full leadership team.
PRG is big: it reports 3,500 employees and more than $1 billion in billed charges (self reported). It is fully vendor-agnostic and says it works in 50+ EHR and PM systems, naming athenahealth, Epic, Oracle Health, NextGen, eClinicalWorks, ModMed, AdvancedMD, CareCloud, Tebra and WebPT. With 234 Google reviews at 4.9 stars, it has the second-largest verified review base here.

| Best for | Mid-size and large practices that want a high capacity, ISO-certified team working inside their current EHR. |
| Strengths |
|
Verdict: Why Choose?
PRG is close behind CareCloud and a strong choice for larger Florida groups that want capacity without changing software. Ask for Florida references and how it handles PIP and SMMC plan claims.
Credex Healthcare
Credex Healthcare is headquartered in Jacksonville, at 5011 Gate Parkway. It began as a credentialing and licensing firm and now offers billing and full RCM. Clutch lists it as founded in 2022 with 10–49 employees, while its site cites "12+ years" of combined experience.
Credex's edge is getting providers enrolled and licensed, which is where many new Florida practices stall. Its Florida credentialing page names Florida Blue, Florida Medicaid and Medicaid managed care plans, the Florida Board of Medicine and the Department of Health, and gives a 60–120 day enrollment timeline. It also handles state licensing for MDs, DOs, APRNs and PAs, plus DEA and IMLC compact applications.
| Headquarters / Florida presence | Jacksonville, FL. Serves Miami, Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville. |
|---|---|
| Core Services | Credentialing, payer enrollment, CAQH, provider licensing, medical billing, coding, charge entry, payment posting, denial management, RCM, billing audits. |

| Compliance | HIPAA (self-reported). No SOC 2 or ISO published. Claims BBB accreditation. |
| Pricing | Not published. |
| Reviews | Google 4.8 (56) Jacksonville; Clutch 5.0 (14); Trustpilot 4.3 (20) |
| Best for | New Florida practices and groups adding providers that need licensing and enrollment handled before billing starts. |
| Strengths |
|
Verdict: Why Choose?
Credex is a natural first call for a Florida practice whose real bottleneck is enrollment. For complex billing, ask for billing-specific references, not just credentialing ones.
BellMedEx
BellMedEx is the trade name of Bellevue Medical LLC, a Washington-based billing company. Its About page says Seattle; its Google listing and Clutch profile show 1400 Talbot Road South in Renton. Clutch lists a 2013 founding date.
BellMedEx competes on price and reviews. It advertises rates "as low as" 2.49% of monthly collections on its homepage (2.99% elsewhere on the site) with free denial appeals included, the most specific pricing here. It also has the largest review base: 349 Google reviews at 4.8 and 309 Trustpilot reviews at 4.9. It offers a free EHR, free PM software and its own FusionEDI clearinghouse.

CureMD makes sense if you want a new EHR anyway. If you plan to keep your current system, an EHR-agnostic billing firm is the simpler move.
MGSI, LLC
MGSI, LLC is a Tampa billing company at 2810 West St. Isabel Street. It says it has more than 30 years in operation under the same management and serves more than 600 physicians nationwide. Its Google listing identifies the business as veteran owned and women-owned.
MGSI is the most "local" option here, in the old-school sense. It bills for solo practices, groups, IPAs, surgery centers, and radiology, anesthesiology and pain management groups across 25+ specialties. Its testimonials include South Tampa Medical Group and a family physician who says he has been with MGSI for 16 years. It says it is certified by LIVE Compliance for network security, staff training and PHI handling.

| Compliance | HIPAA; LIVE Compliance certification (self-reported) |
| Pricing | Not published. |
| Best for | Tampa Bay practices that want an established local firm and in-person access. |
| Strengths |
|
Verdict: Why Choose?
MGSI's long Tampa track record is its selling point, but you'll have to verify it yourself. Ask for two current Florida client references before you sign.
CareMSO
CareMSO LLC lists a Weatherford, Texas address and New York and New Jersey phone numbers. Its site says it is staffed by "hundreds" of billers, coders and A/R specialists and is founded by billing and coding professionals, but it doesn't name its leadership or founding year.
CareMSO's hook is a low-risk trial: its homepage advertises a free first month and up to 50% off billing. It covers the usual billing cycle, plus inbound and outbound patient calls, remote office management, scheduling verification and data migration.
| Headquarters / Florida presence | Weatherford, TX. No Florida office or Florida specific content. |
|---|---|
| Core Services | Eligibility and prior auth, charge entry, coding and audits, payment posting, A/R, denial management, RCM, credentialing, patient call services, remote office management, data migration. |
| Specialties | About 16 named, including cardiology, podiatry, behavioral health, pathology, anesthesia and OB/GYN. |
| Technology | Shows logos for Practice Fusion, Kareo, NextGen, eClinicalWorks, Office Ally and others; has an eClinicalWorks billing page |
| Compliance | HIPAA compliant, "U.S.-based" team (self reported). No SOC 2 or ISO published. |
| Pricing | Not published; first month free promotion. |
| Best for | Small practices that want to test outsourcing with little upfront risk. |
| Strengths |
|
Verdict: Why Choose?
CareMSO can work as a low-risk trial for a small practice, but there's too little public evidence to recommend it for a complex Florida payer mix.
How to Choose a Medical Billing Company in Florida
What is your practice size and stage?
Solo and small practices usually get the most from a partner with one point of contact who can also take on front-desk and credentialing work: HMS USA LLC, or Credex Healthcare if enrollment is the bottleneck. Larger groups and multi-location networks should weigh capacity and certifications first, where CareCloud and Physicians Revenue Group lead.
How much of your revenue is Medicaid, PIP or workers' comp?
If SMMC plans, auto-injury PIP or workers' comp make up a real share of your collections, ask every finalist to explain the 6-month SMMC filing limit, the PIP 14-day rule and 35-day billing window, and the DWC-25 process on the first call. None of the eight publishes deep Florida content on all three; HMS publishes the most detailed PIP guidance, and Credex the most detailed Florida payer-enrollment content.
Do you want a billing team or a new software platform?
If you like your EHR, pick an EHR-agnostic team: HMS USA LLC, Physicians Revenue Group, Credex Healthcare or MGSI. If you want to replace software at the same time, look at CareCloud or CureMD. BellMedEx sits in between with free EHR and PM options.
Do you need published pricing?
BellMedEx is the only company here that publishes a rate (from 2.49% of collections). CareMSO offers a free first month. Everyone else quotes after an assessment, which often ends up more accurate because it reflects your specialty and payer mix. Either way, get the rate and what it covers in writing.
Does local matter to you?
Most billing work is done remotely, so a Florida address isn't required. But if you want to meet your billing team in person, Credex Healthcare (Jacksonville) and MGSI (Tampa) are Florida-based, and CareCloud has a South Florida office.

4. Do you bill Florida workers' comp, and who files the DWC-25 and handles disputes?

6. How fast are denials worked, and is that commitment in the contract?

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the best medical billing companies in Florida?
On our 2026 scorecard, CareCloud (80.7/100) and Physicians Revenue Group (79.8) score highest, followed by HMS USA LLC (74.6), which publishes this guide and has a perfect 5.0 Google rating across 58 reviews. Credex Healthcare (Jacksonville) and MGSI (Tampa) are the Florida-headquartered options.
How much do medical billing companies in Florida charge?
Most charge a percentage of what they collect, often in the low-to-mid single digits. Of the eight companies here, only BellMedEx publishes a rate (from 2.49% of collections); the rest quote after reviewing your specialty, volume and payer mix.
What is the timely filing limit for Florida Medicaid?
For SMMC managed care plans, it is generally 6 months from the date of service, 90 days after a non-Medicare primary payer's decision, or 3 years when Medicare is primary. For fee-for-service Medicaid, a clean claim must be received within 12 months of the date of service.
How fast must Florida insurers pay a claim?
Under Florida Statutes 627.6131 and 641.3155, insurers and HMOs must pay, deny or contest an electronic claim within 20 days and pay or deny within 90 days. Overdue payments earn 12% simple interest per year.
What is the Florida PIP 14-day rule?
To be covered by PIP, an injured person must get initial care within 14 days of the car accident. Benefits go up to $10,000 only if a qualifying provider documents an emergency medical condition; otherwise they cap at $2,500.
Do I need a billing company with an office in Florida?
No. Most billing is done remotely. What matters is Florida experience: SMMC plans, Florida Blue's 180-day filing limit, PIP and workers' comp rules. Ask for Florida client references rather than relying on an address.
How long does it take to switch billing companies?
Usually 30 to 60 days, covering EHR access, payer updates, ERA/EFT setup and a review of open A/R. A good partner runs old and new processes side by side so cash flow doesn't dip.
Are these reviews real?
Yes. Every Google rating in this guide links to the company's live Google Maps listing, and all were read on October 15, 2026. Counts change over time, so click through to see today's numbers and read the reviews yourself
